WATCH | Irrfan Khan's Old Video Reciting 'Thakur Ka Kuan' Poem Goes Viral, Netizens Link It With Hathras Case
The viral video is from Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) where the late actor Irrfan Khan is seen reading out lines of the poem 'Thakur Ka Kuan' written by author Om Prakash Valmiki.
The hideous incident of 'gang rape' with a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras (Uttar Pradesh) has shaken the entire nation. From general public to politicians and Bollywood celebs, people from all walks of life have come forward demanding justice for the victim over this gruesome incident. Amidst all this, an old video of late Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has resurfaced and going viral on the social media as people has linked it to the Hathras incident. The viral video is from Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) where the late actor Irrfan Khan is seen reading out lines of the poem 'Thakur Ka Kuan' written by author Om Prakash Valmiki.
"The stove is of clay, mud is of pond, pond is of Thakur. Hungry of bread, bread is of millet, millet from farm, farm is of Thakur. The bull is of Thakur, the plow is of Thakur, the palm on the plow ours, the crop is of Thakur. Well is of Thakur, water is of Thakur, streets are of Thakur, so what is ours? Villages, Cities, Country?," Irrfan read on the stage during the Jaipur Literature Festival.
The video has lately resurfaced on the social media associating the Hathras case with the poem recited by Khan that talks about the world under the possession of 'Thakur', which usually denoted to 'Upper caste' in India.

The 19-year-old Dalit woman, who was gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, died on Tuesday morning, at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi. The woman was gang-raped in Hathras on September 14, 2020, and was admitted to Delhi's Safdarjung hospital for better healthcare facilities. All the four accused involved in September 14 gang-rape have been arrested.
