Ajay Devgn's 'Maidaan' To Release Directly On OTT? Producers Clear The Air

The makers of 'Maidaan' issued a statement to squash the rumours surrounding the film's release on a streaming platform.

Mumbai: The producers of Ajay Devgn starrer have squashed the rumours which suggested that the film would premiere directly on an OTT platform. The makers of the highly anticipated flick clarified that they are not talking to any streaming platform for a pay-per-view release of ‘Maidaan’. They added that they are focusing on completing the film while keeping the safety of cast and crew in mind. 

The makers issued a statement after rumours of the film’s direct-to-web release surfaced on the internet. Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta, who are the producers, have refuted the speculations surrounding their upcoming sports drama.

"We would like to share that there is currently no conversation with any streaming platform for pay per view release of Maidaan. Our focus, at present, is to complete the film keeping everyone’s safety in mind and in full compliance of protocols laid down by the government. We request you to please reach out to us regarding any news about Maidaan," the statement read. 

Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ has been making waves ever since the project was announced. The Bollywood superstar will be playing the role of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in the movie.  

The Amit Sharma directorial is scheduled to hit the silver screens on October 15. It also features PriyamaniRudranil Ghosh and Gajraj Rao in key roles. The sets of the film has been destroyed due to the Tauktae cyclone, which led to a massive destruction in Mumbai. 

Bollywood Films Which Released On OTT In Recent Times 

Salman Khan’s ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ and Arjun Kapoor-Rakul Preet Singh’s Sardar Ka Grandson’ recently released on ZEEPlex and Netflix respectively.  

Salman’s Eid 2021 film released on ZEE5’s pay-per-view platform on May 13. Despite receiving scathing reviews from the critics, the action drama managed to register a phenomenal opening. It garnered over 4.2 million views across all platforms on Day 1.

‘Sardar Ka Grandson’, which also stars Neena Gupta, premiered directly on Netflix on May 18. Vidya Balan’s new film ‘Sherni’ will also skip the theatrical route and release on Amazon Prime Video. 

Farhan Akhtar starrer 'Toofan' was also set for a release on Amazon Prime Video on May 21; however, the makers delayed the premiere date due to the COVID-19 crisis.
