Kolkata International Film Festival Launches 'Kolkata Tram Of Horror' As Australian Horror Films Grace The Event
To complement this ghastly quartet, KIFF launched the 'Kolkata Tram of Horror', inviting film enthusiasts to embark on a spine-chilling tram ride through the world of Australian horror films.
In a spine-chilling cinematic celebration, the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) turned the spotlight on Australia as the Special Feature Country, bringing a selection of the best Australian outback horror films to the city. From the early classic 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' by internationally renowned director Peter Weir and thriller 'Sissy' by Hannah Barlow to the terrifying cult classic 'Wolf Creek' by director, producer and writer, Greg Mclean, and horror-comedy '100 Bloody Acres' by Cameron & Colin Cairness, the festival promises a thrilling journey through the depths of terror.
To complement this ghastly quartet, KIFF launched the 'Kolkata Tram of Horror', inviting film enthusiasts to embark on a spine-chilling tram ride through the world of Australian horror films. The launch took place on December 6, 2023, at the Esplanade Tram Depot and took terrified commuters to the Ballygunge Depot. Guests included acclaimed Australian filmmaker and screenwriter Rolf de Heer and Rowan Ainsworth, the Australian Consul General in Kolkata, both of whom inaugurated the tram. The journey commenced from the CTC Control Room, Curzon Park, and ended at Gariahat Tram Depot.
Rolf de Heer, who is an acclaimed Australian filmmaker and screenwriter said, "The Australian Horror section adds another layer, offering a distinctive and immersive journey through horror films that have become classics in Australia. The Tram of Horror reflects their cult status… intriguing, fun and often unexpected."
Attendees, including media luminaries, industry leaders and esteemed guests rode the streets in the 'Tram of Horror'. More than just a ride; the 'Tram of Horror' was a journey into the heart of Australian outback horror.
