Kangana Ranaut Agrees With Shabana Azmi's Statement About 'The Kerala Story' Ban
In response to Shabana Azmi's tweet, Kangana Ranaut clarified that Aamir Khan's film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was not banned.
New Delhi: After ‘The Kerala Story’ was criticised for allegedly "spreading hate," Kangana Ranaut came out in strong defence of its creators and the actors who starred in it. The trailer of the film caused a major controversy, with many citizens and political figures calling for the film to be banned. However, following its May 5 release, ‘The Kerala Story’ received widespread acclaim. The Adah Sharma-led film directed by Sudipto Sen has been met with criticism throughout its release territories. The film was banned in West Bengal and its distribution was suspended in Tamil Nadu. Recently, Shabana Azmi has spoken out against people who want to ban Sen's film.
Shabana Azmi tweeted her support for the seasoned actress in the debate over ‘The Kerala Story’. On Twitter, Shabana said that the same people who want to boycott ‘The Kerala Story’ also tried to stop the release of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ starring Aamir Khan.
She wrote, "Those who speak of banning #The Kerala Story are as wrong as those who wanted to ban Aamir Khan’s #Laal Singh Chaadha. Once a film has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification nobody has the right to become an extra constitutional authority."
In response to the seasoned actress, Kangana Ranaut clarified that the Aamir Khan's film was not banned. "This is a very valid point except for the fact that no one asked for a ban on LSC. People just didn’t want to see it for many reasons, major reason was it was a remake of a very popular old Hollywood classic which most people had already seen", she wrote.
At the box office, ‘The Kerala Story’ has been doing really well. The film made Rs 8.03 crore (nett) on its first day of release in India on May 5. The Kerala Story has earned a total of Rs 35.25 crores in India so far in three days.
