I Had A Corneal Transplant, Kidney Transplant, I Am Almost The Terminator: Rana Daggubati

Actor Rana Daggubati, who recently made his OTT debut with Rana Naidu on Netflix, suffers from partial blindness, and he had revealed this on a chat show in 2016.

New Delhi: Actor Rana Daggubati, who recently made his OTT debut with Rana Naidu on Netflix, suffers from partial blindness, and he had revealed this on a chat show in 2016. While speaking to a young boy who was devastated about his mother losing an eye, Rana told that he had a corneal transplant when he was a kid, and he can’t see from his right eye. Now in an interview, the actor has shared the reason behind sharing this on a public platform.

In an interview with The Bombay Journey, when asked about his opening up about his eyes in 2016, Rana said, “I think I am one of the few guys who had a corneal transplant and spoke about it. It was also because there was a kid whose mom had lost her eye and he was very sad in terms of what it is. And I told him its not what it is. Everything has a way of it and that’s when I just told about my eye. I can’t see from my right eye, so I operate in a different view,”

“Many people can get broken because of a physical problem and even if it gets fixed, there is a certain heaviness that will still be there. I had a corneal transplant, I had a kidney transplant so it’s like I am almost the Terminator. (laughs) So, I was like, ‘come on, I am still surviving and you just have to keep going’,” he added.

In the 2016 Telugu chat show Memu Saitham, the actor had told a young boy about his partial blindness.

About 'Rana Naidu' and his role in the show
Meanwhile, Rana is getting rave reviews for his performance in Rana Naidu, where he has worked with his uncle Venkatesh for the first time.

“I like the extremes, like when I play good (roles) in films, there is extreme goodness like in ‘Leader’, where good is extreme. And if it is bad, the bad has to be extreme too and if it is grey like in ‘Rana Naidu’, it is (also) going to be extreme. I feel extreme emotions is what I connect with and it does not matter if I am playing good or bad (roles). The fact that I get to play so many things is interesting,” Rana told PTI about his role.

“When you see me in the show, you do not know if this guy is good or bad. You just follow him with whatever deeds he does and Rana Naidu best uses this. He is stoic, extremely complex, emotional but does not show emotion. He has a problem with everybody, he wants to fix everything but he is the reason that everything is not being fixed. So, it is a complex world that he lives in and that is what really excited me,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
