Val Kilmer, the beloved Hollywood actor known for his charismatic performances in Top Gun, The Doors, Tombstone, and Batman Forever, has passed away at the age of 65. The actor, who battled throat cancer for several years, succumbed to complications related to pneumonia. His daughter confirmed the news to media on Tuesday. 

Born on December 31, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, Kilmer showed an early passion for acting. He became the youngest student ever admitted to Juilliard’s prestigious Drama Division and quickly made a name for himself in the world of theater before transitioning to Hollywood.

His breakout role came in 1986 as Lt. Tom "Iceman" Kazanski in Top Gun, where his rivalry with Tom Cruise’s Maverick became one of cinema’s most iconic dynamics. Kilmer cemented his reputation as a versatile actor with his portrayal of rock legend Jim Morrison in The Doors (1991), a role that earned him widespread critical acclaim. Beyond mainstream blockbusters, Kilmer showcased his range in films like Willow (1988), Heat (1995), and The Saint (1997). His deep commitment to his craft made him one of the most respected actors of his generation.

In 2015, Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer, which led to a tracheotomy that permanently affected his voice. Despite his health struggles, he remained active in Hollywood and shared his journey in the 2021 documentary Val, offering fans an intimate look into his life and career.
