The much-anticipated film releases in India on July 11, and stars David Corenswet as the iconic Man of Steel. Joining him are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult in the role of arch-nemesis Lex Luthor.

Positive Buzz Fuels Opening Weekend Expectations

Initial social media reactions to Superman have leaned positive, with many praising the film’s tone, performances, and storytelling. This early enthusiasm could be a major factor in the film’s global performance, especially with critics giving it a solid 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Reports indicate that Superman could pull in a global opening weekend total between $200 million and $230 million, spanning over 60,000 screens worldwide, according to Sacnilk. In North America alone, box office experts predict a $130 million debut, although DC Studios is maintaining a more conservative estimate of just over $100 million.

The film not only marks Gunn’s first directorial project under his new leadership at DC Studios, but also introduces a fresh lineup of characters in the revamped universe. Alongside Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Hoult, the cast features Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Superman marks the official beginning of the new DC Studios era under James Gunn and Peter Safran, who took charge of Warner Bros.’ superhero division in October 2022. It sets the stage for a series of upcoming DC projects, including the highly anticipated Green Lantern series, Lanterns, and a Supergirl film scheduled for 2026.
