Compounding this crisis is the escalating pollution in cities like Delhi, where toxic air exacerbates respiratory illnesses, particularly during winter. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) frequently reaches hazardous levels, making survival even more challenging for the vulnerable population.

Over the past three years (2021–2023), monsoon disasters have claimed over 3,500 lives due to floods, landslides, and infrastructural collapses, displacing more than 5 million people annually.
