PM Narendra Modi Congratulates Zakir Hussain And Shankar Mahadevan For Making India Proud At The Grammys

Narendra Modi congratulated Shankar Mahadevan and the band for 'Best Global Music Album' win at Grammy Awards 2024.

New Delhi: After the fusion band Shakti won the Global Music Album Grammy on February 5 (IST), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the winners on social media. ‘This Moment’ was named the ‘Best Global Music Album’ winner at the 66th Annual Grammys. A total of eight original compositions by Shakti members—including guitarist John McLaughlin, tabla player Zakir Hussain, singer Shankar Mahadevan, drummer V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan—make up the album.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra took to his X account and wrote, "Congratulations @ZakirHtabla, @Rakeshflute, @Shankar_Live, @kanjeeraselva and @violinganesh on your phenomenal success at the #GRAMMYs! Your exceptional talent and dedication to music have won hearts worldwide. India is proud! These achievements are a testament to the hardwork you keep putting in. It will also inspire the new generation of artists to dream big and excel in music." 

Renowned composers like AR Rahman and Ricky Kej were among those who reacted to the India win, alongside the prime minister. With the message, "It's raining Grammys for India," Rahman posted a selfie from the event.

Ricky Kej shared the joyous news, writing, "SHAKTI wins a #GRAMMYs #GRAMMYs2024 !!! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia."

The Grammys 2024 took place on February 5 (IST) in Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
