Doctor Who Supplied Ketamine To Matthew Perry Called Him A ‘Moron’, Could Get 40 Years In Prison

Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who allegedly supplied ketamine to Matthew Perry and once called him a “moron,” pleads guilty and may face 40 years in prison.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia, the doctor accused of supplying ketamine to actor Matthew Perry before his death, has agreed to plead guilty. As reported by Variety, prosecutors filed a plea agreement in federal court in Los Angeles, charging him with four counts of ketamine distribution. If convicted, Plasencia faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a possible $2 million fine.

Matthew Perry’s doctor pleads guilty in Ketamine case

Authorities say that between September 30 and October 12, 2023, Plasencia gave ketamine to Perry and his assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, without any valid medical reason. He reportedly handed over vials, lozenges, and syringes, sometimes at Perry’s home or even in a parking lot. Officials believe this was part of a broader “underground network” of drug suppliers.

A text message from Plasencia described Perry as a “moron” who could be exploited for money. This revelation has stirred even more attention around the case. The doctor also admitted that his actions did not meet acceptable medical standards.

Matthew Perry death

Matthew Perry, best known for his role on ‘Friends’, was found dead at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. He was 54. A toxicology report confirmed his cause of death as acute ketamine effects, along with drowning and heart issues. His death sparked a major investigation by the DEA and LAPD, leading to several arrests.

Perry had been undergoing legal but off-label ketamine treatment for depression under his regular doctor’s supervision, a practice that has become increasingly popular. However, reports indicate the actor began seeking more of the drug than was medically prescribed.

The actor had battled addiction for years, dating back to his ‘Friends’ days, where he rose to global fame as Chandler Bing. Perry starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer on the iconic sitcom, which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.
