In a recent interview, veteran actress Zarina Wahab opened up about her son Sooraj Pancholi’s acquittal in the high-profile Jiah Khan suicide case. She reflected on the long legal battle and the toll it took on her family, while also making claims about Jiah's past struggles with mental health.
Zarina says Jiah Khan attempted suicide multiple times
Speaking to Lehren, Zarina alleged that Jiah had attempted to take her own life multiple times before meeting Sooraj. "Uske pehle bhi usne 4-5 baar try kiya hai, lekin naseeb aisi thi ki jab mere bete ka turn aaya toh it happened (Even before that, she had tried 4-5 times, but it was destiny that when my son’s turn came, it happened)," she remarked.

Zarina also addressed the professional setbacks her son faced due to the allegations against him. She said, “We all went through a bad time, but I believe in one thing: 'If you spoil anybody's life with lies, take it as a loan; it will come to you with interest.' Karma says that. Hum log ne intezaar kiya jab he was not guilty (We waited patiently knowing he was not guilty). It took 10 years, but he is out of it, and I am happy. It has affected Sooraj's career.”
Zarina further refrained from commenting on Jiah's personal life, adding, "Woh kya karti thi sab jaante hai (Everyone knows what she used to do), I don't want to open my mouth. Bolke mein apne aap ko chota nahi karna chahti hoon (I don’t want to lower myself by speaking further)."
Jiah Khan case
Jiah Khan, remembered for her work in films like Nishabd alongside Amitabh Bachchan, was found dead in her Mumbai residence on June 3, 2013. Her mother, Rabia Khan, discovered her body. Jiah’s then-boyfriend, Sooraj Pancholi, was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide.
Central to the case was a six-page note allegedly written by Jiah, which detailed her turbulent relationship with Sooraj. The note reportedly described "intimate relationship, physical abuse, and mental and physical torture" that Jiah endured, which the prosecution argued pushed her to end her life.
However, in 2023, after a decade-long legal struggle, Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted of all charges.
