Actor Sudhanshu Pandey has weighed in on the ongoing backlash against Ram Kapoor, who found himself at the centre of a storm after reportedly making inappropriate and sexually charged comments during the promotions of his latest web series 'Mistry'. The remarks sparked widespread outrage, prompting JioHotstar to allegedly distance the actor from all further publicity engagements related to the show.
Sudhanshu Pandey reacts to Ram Kapoor's comments
In an interview with FilmiBeat, Sudhanshu didn’t mince words when reacting to Ram’s behaviour. He expressed regret that someone of Ram’s seniority and stature would make such remarks, calling it a matter of “mental instability.”
“Firstly, Ram is damaging his own image by making such comments. Secondly, one must be mentally unstable to say such things, particularly when referring to a woman who is in close proximity. A decent individual should always treat others, especially women, with respect. If Ram has indeed said something like this, then I sincerely apologise on behalf of our entire industry.”
What Ram Kapoor said
Ram Kapoor has come under heavy scrutiny following an appearance where he reportedly made several vulgar and offensive statements. The actor reportedly made a crude joke about kissing a male marketing executive, and in a separate instance, remarked that his mother “should have gone to sleep” instead of giving birth to him.
Worse still, he allegedly compared the media interaction to “being gang-raped,” and made further sexually inappropriate remarks in front of a journalist. He also reportedly passed comments about the clothes worn by female team members at the event, saying, “If they are in my line of sight, how can I not look?”
Ram Kapoor responds to his statement
Following the outrage, Kapoor admitted to making the comments but claimed they were meant in jest and not intended to hurt anyone. In a conversation with Times Of India, he said, "Let me start by saying that everything I’ve been accused of saying, I have said it. So, the fact is that I am guilty as charged. But this is what I have to say in my defence. Whenever I am with people I am comfortable with, I tend to become my bindass self. Everyone who knows me and who has worked with me knows that is how I am and that I don’t mean to be offensive. I didn’t feel that even once throughout the day. We were laughing and joking. If I had gotten the whiff that they were offended, I would have dealt with it right away. Why would I make those comments openly if I felt they were offensive?"
