Sajid Khan Breaks Silence On MeToo Allegations: 'I Thought Of Ending My Life Many Times'
Sajid Khan, who faced severe backlash during the 2018 MeToo movement, has opened up about the devastating impact of the allegations on his life.
New Delhi: Sajid Khan, a filmmaker who came under fire for sexual harassment allegations made by many women during the #MeToo movement of 2018, has spoken out about his painful six-year ordeal. According to the 54-year-old filmmaker, the accusations that led to his removal as Housefull 4's director had a devastating effect on his mental and physical health, to the point that he considered suicide many times.
Filmmaker Sajid Khan spoke candidly about his struggles with depression and suicide in an interview with HT City. He shared, "I thought of ending my life many times in the last 6 years. It’s been extremely bad, in the sense that I’ve been out of work. Despite getting a clearance from Indian Film and Television Directors Association (IFTDA)."
In his analysis of the scenario, Sajid Khan went on to say that he had previously depended on "offensive humour," the belief that "offence is the best defence," to lighten the mood.
He also recalled his post-Housefull 4 interactions with his mother, Menaka Irani. Sajid shared, "I was worried she’d have a heart attack if she found out. I told Farah (my sister) to hide the newspapers from her. For 10 days, I pretended everything was fine, leaving the house and coming back as if I’d been on set... I’ve never, and will never, say anything against any woman. But yes, the last six years have been a period of self-assessment."
