In today’s digital age, a simple blue tick next to a social media handle can spark heated debates about authenticity and credibility. Recently, renowned Indian actors Siddharth Nigam and Parul Gulati sat down for an eye-opening conversation with The Filmy Charcha to unpack the implications of the paid verified Blue Tick feature.
As influencers in their respective fields, both actors brought forward compelling insights on how this new verification method affects genuine connections between celebrities and their audiences.
What Siddharth Nigam said
Siddharth Nigam, known for his performances in Dhoom 3, Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat, and Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga, shared his perspective on the matter. He explained that while the blue tick can indicate that an account is verified, it doesn’t necessarily equate to authenticity. “The blue tick is just a marker to show that a page is verified. It doesn’t define my authenticity or my connection with my audience,” Siddharth said. He emphasized that building genuine relationships and maintaining a sincere interaction with fans are far more significant than any verification symbol.
What Parul Gulati said
Parul Gulati, a prominent model, actress, and entrepreneur, echoed similar sentiments. As the CEO and founder of the hair extensions brand ‘Nish Hair’, Parul has experience both in the entertainment industry and in managing her own business. She pointed out that authenticity extends beyond external symbols like the blue tick. “True authenticity is not about these markers. It’s about being genuine and real with your audience,” Parul stated. Together, they underscored a critical message: despite changes in social media dynamics, true authenticity lies in meaningful interactions and sincere relationships between public figures and their audiences.
During the conversation with The Filmy Charcha, Siddharth and Parul delved into the importance of Public Relations (PR) in their career trajectories. Siddharth emphasized the crucial impact that authentic and strategic PR efforts have on advancing their professional paths. “PR is essential, not just for actors but for all brands. However, it’s crucial that the PR efforts are genuine and avoid spreading false or misleading information,” he said. Siddharth warned against the temporary allure of misleading PR stunts, noting that such tactics are unsustainable in the long run. “A facade can’t last forever. If you’re going to invest in PR, it should be done properly and truthfully,” he added.
Parul Gulati also shared her views on the positive and negative uses of PR. She acknowledged that while PR can significantly benefit actors and businesses by building relationships and promoting projects, it can also be misused. Parul discussed instances where PR has been used unethically to spread negativity or harm others’ reputations. “I’ve heard of situations where PR was used to spread negative memes or false information about others. That’s just wrong,” Parul Gulati shed light on the darker side of public relations during her discussion. While PR has the power to elevate careers and enhance brand visibility, it can also be weaponized. She recounted situations where individuals resorted to unethical tactics, using PR strategies to disseminate negative memes or false narratives about others.
Both Siddharth and Parul agreed that while the introduction of the paid Blue Tick might change how verification is perceived, the essence of authenticity lies in genuine interactions and honest engagement with audiences. They concluded that maintaining integrity and transparency should be the primary focus, regardless of digital verification markers.
