Social media influencer Elvish Yadav has been called in by the National Commission for Women (NCW) following his racist remarks against Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang. Yadav has been directed to appear before the commission on Monday. 

The controversy erupted after the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) strongly denounced Yadav’s comments, labeling them "derogatory and racist." In a formal letter to the NCW chairperson, APSCW chief Kenjum Pakam stated that Yadav’s remarks were not only offensive to Darang but also disrespectful to women from the Northeast. 

What Elvish Yadav said about Chum Darang

The remarks were made during a podcast where Yadav, in conversation with Bigg Boss 18 contestant Rajat Dalal, mocked Darang and made insensitive comments about her. While talking about Karanveer Mehra and Chum’s liking for each other on the show, Elvish said, “Karanveer ko pakka COVID tha kyunki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai! Aur Chum ke toh naam mein hi ashleelta hai… Naam Chum aur kaam Gangubai Kathiawadi mein kiya hai.”

How Chum Darang reacted to Elvish Yadav's comment

Chum also condemned the YouTuber's remarks in an Instagram story post, stressing the need to distinguish between humour and hatred. 

She wrote, "Mocking someone’s achievements is not ‘banter.’ It’s time we draw the line between humor and hate. What’s even more disappointing is that this wasn’t just about my ethnicity—my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also disrespected." 

She went on to express her support for those who have experienced racism, especially those from the Northeast.  She wrote, "To my fellow Northeasterners and everyone who has faced racism—I see you, I hear you, and I stand with you. We all deserve respect, dignity, and equality. Let’s raise our voices against racism and promote a culture of empathy, kindness, and understanding. #NoRoomForRacism #NotOkayWithRacism." 

Elvish is currently a part of 'Laughter Chefs Season 2' and also serves as a gang leader in the ongoing season of 'Roadies'.
