Radhika Apte Responds To Yashica Dutt's Plagiarism Allegations Against The Makers Of ‘Made In Heaven 2’
Radhika Apte addresses casteism after the uproar over the 'Made In Heaven 2' episode.
New Delhi: Director Neeraj Ghaywan's controversial episode on casteism in Season 2 of ‘Made in Heaven’ has been the subject of much discussion ever since it was released. Dalit author Yashica Dutt criticised the makers, alleging that they used a version of her life on screen without permission or credit. Radhika Apte's portrayal of the Dalit woman Pallavi Menke was at the centre of the backlash. Radhika has recently commented on the heated discussion, saying that the opposing viewpoints are distracting from the real issue.
In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Radhika Apte discussed Yashica Dutt’s claim, saying, "I strongly feel that no matter what both the parties are talking about and feeling, I know for a fact that neither of them (makers of the show and the author) want the good effects or the good consequences of this episode to be diminished even for a minute."
The actress also stressed the need to look at the show's themes in a broader context. “They both are on the same side when it comes to championing the cause and saying that it is a great thing that an episode about this issue has come on the mainstream platform, and it shouldn’t be cancelled or should be banned. It should be only looked at positively. We are all on the same side in the end,” she said.
Radhika added, “So, I let the character that they’ve envisioned, come alive on screen. Beyond this, it is not right for me to comment any further on the actual controversy or the actual conflict that they are facing.”
‘Made In Heaven 2’ follows Tara (Sobhita Dhulipala) and Karan (Arjun Mathur), two wedding planners based in Delhi. Apte's character in the episode is a proud Dalit who advocates for her people.
