Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Moves Resolution Against Waqf Amendment Bill In Assembly
During the assembly session, Stalin criticised the Union government for its attempt to amend the existing Waqf Act and accused it of disregarding the concerns of Muslim community.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has moved a resolution in the state assembly opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill proposed by the Central government. The resolution calls for the withdrawal of the bill, arguing that it would weaken the powers of the Waqf Board and hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community.
During the assembly session, Stalin criticised the Union government for its attempt to amend the existing Waqf Act, stating that the proposed changes would hinder the functioning of the Waqf Board. He accused the Centre of disregarding the concerns of the Muslim community and interfering with minority rights.
The resolution states, "People are living in religious harmony in India. The Constitution has provided rights for all people to follow their religion. The elected Governments have the rights to protect it. The Assembly unanimously insists that the Union Government should recall the Waqf Amendment Bill in 2024 for Waqf Act 1995, which will badly affect the minority Muslims to be withdrawn."

The resolution was welcomed by DMK's allies including VCK and Left parties and Opposition parties including AIADMK and PMK.
However, BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan strongly opposed the resolution, arguing that the proposed amendments were necessary for better regulation of Waqf properties and that the opposition to the bill was politically motivated. The debate in the assembly highlighted the ongoing tensions between the ruling DMK and the BJP over issues concerning minority rights and religious governance.
