‘I Was Seeking Creativity…’: Kritika Kamra Talks About Her Transition From Television To OTT

In an exclusive interview with ABPLive, Kritika Kamra talked about her journey from television to OTT.

New Delhi: Kritika Kamra is back on OTT with a crime drama 'Bambai Meri Jaan'. The series, which premiered on September 14, explores the development of Bombay's criminal underworld. A police officer (Kay Kay Menon) whose son (Avinash Tiwary) turns into a criminal (Dara) is at the centre of this series. Kritika Kamra is playing Habiba Kadri, Ismail's daughter and Dara's sister. In an exclusive interview with ABPLive, the actress talked about her journey from television to OTT. She said that leaving television was a move towards more creative freedom for her.

After starring in hit Indian television shows like ‘Prem Ya Paheli - Chandrakant’ and ‘Kitni Mohabbat Hai,’ Kritika became a household name. She has also done some work in recent years for online series like ‘Taandav’ as well as films like ‘Mitron’ and ‘Bheed’. Fans can't wait to see what this talented actor does next.

She was asked about her transition from television to OTT and how much is she enjoying this medium. Kritika Kamra answered, “I'm really enjoying the stuff, the quality, the writing and the making on OTT. That is something that television surely lacks and that was my sort of complaint with the medium that gave me everything. It was only when I reached a point where I thought that I wasn't doing anything new and I wasn't growing, is when I decided to not do television.”

The actress also thinks that the medium doesn’t matter for any actor. She said, “This transition had to make sense. It had to give me what I wanted and what I was seeking creativity and I think that's happened with OTT. Not just for me, for every actor, for all the actors today, I think the medium doesn't matter - it's actually in how people perceive them. I think the people put you in these boxes of television actor, OTT actor, film actor and all that. I think actors are generally people who love what they do, who care about their craft and who just approach every character and every story with equal passion.”

She ended up saying, “Luckily, I'm in a place where I have exciting things to choose from. Exciting things that are coming up, So, I hope that the transition is now complete.”

'Bambai Meri Jaan,' directed by Shujaat Saudagar and produced by Excel Entertainment's Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, is available to watch now on Prime Video.
