‘We’re Going To Take A Moment To Grieve...': Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, And Other Friends Stars React To Matthew Perry’s Death

Matthew Perry played Chandler Bing, the sarcastic friend of a close-knit group, on the NBC comedy 'Friends' from 1994 to 2004.

New Delhi: The cast of Friends—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—finally issued a joint statement two days after Matthew Perry's unexpected death. The statement was exclusively acquired by PEOPLE. Perry was known for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the sitcom. The actor passed away on Saturday at his Los Angeles home. He was 54.

"We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family," their statement reads. "There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."

"In time we will say more, as and when we are able," the statement continues. "For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."

The 54-year-old actor played Chandler Bing, the sarcastic friend of a close-knit group, on the NBC comedy 'Friends' from 1994 to 2004. For his performance, Perry received two Emmy nominations: one in 2002 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and another in 2021 for executive producing the 'Friends: The Reunion' special on HBO Max.

Executive producer Kevin Bright joined co-creators of the show Marta Kauffman and David Crane in a statement released on Sunday.

“We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing. It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives,” the statement read.

“He was a brilliant talent. It’s a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words. From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us. We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment – not just to his work, but in life as well. He was always the funniest person in the room. More than that, he was the sweetest, with a giving and selfless heart,” they added.

Matthew Perry passed away on Saturday, October 28, apparently from drowning. It was shortly after 4 p.m. when his body was found in the hot tub of his Pacific Palisades residence. The actor made a terrifying 911 call from his house the night before he passed away, and it was recently made public.
