Javed Akhtar To Stand Up Comics: Gaali Is The Chilli Of Language, If You Are Witty Enough....'

Javed Akhtar is one of the country's most well-known and successful screenwriters and lyricists who changed the game for film writers in the Hindi film industry in the 70s.

New Delhi: Javed Akhtar is one of the country's most well-known and successful screenwriters and lyricists who changed the game for film writers in the Hindi film industry in the 70s. As part of the Salim-Javed duo, the writers gave Bollywood and Indian cinema some of its classics whose dialogues and idelogical contentions framed the movie-viewing and hero-accepting experience for many.

Javed Akhtar on using 'gaalis' in comedy

Recently, an interaction with Sapan Verma, co-founder of East India Comedy, Javed Akhtar spoke about 'cuss words' and 'abusive language' and their importance and space in the larger syntax of language model, leaving everyone in splits.

When he was asked if abusive language should be used in the world of comedy, Akhtar said, "If you go to Odisha, Bihar, Mexico, anywhere in the world where there is a lot of poverty, people eat a lot of chilli because the food is bland. So they, just to get some taste, they eat chilli."

“Gaali ( abuse/slang)  is the chilli of language. If you can speak good language and if you are witty enough, you don't need this chilli. If the conversation is bland, you'll put some gaalis in it just to give it some energy,” the veteran lyricist added.

Karan Johar answers 'Who is the funniest man in Bollywood' question

Earlier in an interaction with the same channel, when Karan Johar had appeared some time ago, he was asked who was the funniest man in Bollywood. At the time, the filmmaker-producer had replied without even a thought, "Javed Akhtar," further added that the screenwriter had once very casually told him, "Everytime I tell Shabana a joke, she tries to solve it."

Karan Johar had also added that SRK was the second funniest man in the fraternity.

Now, when Sapan Varma, the stand-up comic brought up Karan Johar’s answer to Javed Akhtar’s, the latter called him a very ‘frank and honest person’, making a pun on himself and getting the whole house to laugh.
