Mamta Kulkarni has worked with Salman and Shah Rukh Khan in the 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun. Kulkarni recently opened up about her experience during the Karan Arjun shoot, where she had an unexpected and somewhat humorous encounter with her co-stars.
In a candid conversation with India TV, Mamta, who has since embraced a spiritual path, recounted an incident from the set of Karan Arjun that involved Shah Rukh and Salman. She was asked whether she had ever yelled at the two stars, to which she immediately responded, "No, I didn’t yell at them." She continued, "Shah Rukh told you this?"
For the unversed, Shah Rukh and Salman had once recalled how Mamta scolded them for not doing dance steps properly.
Salman Khan and Shah Rukh "sniggered" at Mamta
Mamta went on to explain the events that unfolded that day. “Actually, Chinni Prakash was the choreographer of Karan Arjun. Both Shah Rukh and Salman had gone for the shoot, and I was sitting alone. After almost an hour and a half, Chinni Prakash’s assistant knocked at my door. I said, ‘What happened?’ He said, ‘Masterji is calling you.’”
“There were stairs, and when I was climbing up, both Salman and Shah Rukh passed by me and they sniggered. I was quiet. It was about 8 in the evening, and I went to Masterji. He told me, ‘This particular step, you will do it alone.’ I was like, ‘What are you saying?’”
The next day, Mamta took center stage for the first shot of the dance sequence. "The first shot was mine, and it was approved right away," she recalled. "And I saw both Shah Rukh and Salman watching me from behind a bush. And they are laughing again."
When Salman and Shah Rukh took many retakes
She continues, The next shot was theirs. They had to do a step on their knees in between 5,000 people. They took so many retakes. The director eventually shouted pack up. We all ran to our rooms. I knew last evening they played with me. I didn’t want to give them the opportunity to make the choreographer assign all the steps to me. So when they ran up, so did I. As soon as I came, Salman stopped me and shut the door on my face. This was it.”
She added, “Salman is very naughty. I am very punctual. He would always tease me, and I would be like, ‘Shut up, Salman.’”
