Dhoom Director Sanjay Gadhvi Dies At 56; Heart Attack Suspected
Sanjay Gadhvi passed away on Sunday at his Mumbai home at the age of 56.
New Delhi: 'Dhoom' director Sanjay Gadhvi passed away on Sunday at his Mumbai home. Sanjina Gadhvi, his daughter, informed PTI of the news. He was 56.
Yash Raj Films' 'Dhoom' franchise features two massive hits that Gadhvi helmed: 'Dhoom' (2004) and 'Dhoom 2' (2006). Gadhvi was three days away from turning 57 years old.
Sanjina told PTI, "He passed away at 9.30 am this morning at his residence. We are not sure what it is, but it is most likely a heart attack. He wasn't unwell, he was perfectly healthy."
The 'Dhoom 2' actor, Abhishek Bachchan, remembered the filmmaker with a long note on Instagram.
"I took this photo of Sanjay whilst we were filming the climax of Dhoom 2 in South Africa. We made 2 films together - Dhoom and Dhoom 2. Sanju, when I spoke to you last week and we were reminiscing about our shoots and memories I would never have imagined even in my craziest dreams that I would have to write a post like this. I’m shocked beyond belief. You had faith in me, even when I didn’t. You gave me my first ever hit!!! I can never ever forget that or be able express what it meant to me. I will cherish your friendship always. Rest in peace my brother," he wrote.

Sanjay is survived by his wife Gina and two daughters, with Sanjina being the elder one.
'Tere Liye', Gadhvi's 2000 directorial debut, was followed by 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai', his first film with Yash Raj Films, in 2002. Sanjay worked as the director of numerous Yash Raj Pictures productions. He also directed 'Kidnap' (2008), starring Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, and Minissha Lamba; 'Ajab Gazabb Love' (2012), starring Arjun Rampal; and 'Operation Parindey' (2020), starring Amit Sadh and Rahul Dev.
