AR Rahman Sends Legal Notice To 'Slanderers' Amid Separation Announcement: 'Remove Objectionable Content'
Music composer AR Rahman threatens legal action against those spreading defamatory content following his separation from Saira Banu.
New Delhi: After AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu recently separated, the composer took a firm stance against the spread of defamatory material. He issued a legal notice on social media on November 23, warning those who are circulating rumours about his alleged romance with bassist Mohini Dey. The controversy started when AR Rahman and Mohini Dey both announced their splits from their spouses earlier this week, leading to speculation about a possible connection between the two.
In his post on X (formerly Twitter), AR Rahman included a three-page legal notice addressing those responsible for the “objectionable” content circulating online. He captioned it, "Notice to all slanderers from ARR's Legal Team."
The notice reads: “While it is so that it is noticed some of the social media platforms and several YouTubers have started a series of calumny and defamatory write-ups about the same with their own concocted and fertile imaginary stories on their private life. There were also interviews by some busy bodies about their own perspective on the failure of their marriage life."
The notice demands the removal of defamatory material within 24 hours, threatening legal action under Section 356 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, if the content is not taken down. According to his legal team, "My client informs the hatemongers and sharers of abusive contents to remove the objectionable content within the next one hour and a maximum time duration of 24 hours."
Rahman's legal team also highlighted that his family has been distressed by the defamatory statements and that more measures would be taken if the problem is not resolved quickly.
