Hours after A. R. Rahman announced his separation from his wife, Saira Banu, his bassist Mohini Dey also revealed her decision to part ways with her husband, Mark Hartsuch. While this coincidence left many speculating about a possible link between Rahman’s divorce and Mohini’s announcement, it has now been clarified that there is no connection between the two.

Is There A Connection Between AR Rahman And Mohini Dey?

Saira Banu’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, addressed the rumours, stating, “There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr Rahman made this decision on their own,” as quoted by ETimes.

She further elaborated on Rahman and Saira’s divorce, saying, “Every long marriage goes through ups and downs, and I am extremely happy that if it has come to an end, it has done so in a dignified manner. Both Rahman and Saira will continue to support each other and wish each other well.”

However, the lawyer refrained from disclosing the reason behind their separation, emphasising, “Both of them are extremely genuine, and this decision was not taken lightly. It is not what you would call a sham marriage.” She also clarified that their divorce is amicable and that financial discussions have not yet taken place.

A. R. Rahman and Saira Banu, who share three children—daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son Ameen—confirmed their separation on Tuesday night through a joint statement issued by their lawyer.

The statement read: “After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr AR Rahman. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time.”

Later, Rahman addressed the separation on X (formerly Twitter) with a heartfelt message: “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter (sic).”
