The trailer launch of 'Son of Sardaar 2' in Mumbai turned into a laughter-filled affair when Ajay Devgn finally addressed the internet’s obsession with his now-viral dance move from the film’s romantic track 'Pehla Tu'.
The quirky step, which sees Ajay and Mrunal Thakur clasping hands and sticking their fingers out in rhythm, has sparked a meme fest online, with many social media users poking fun at its simplicity and awkwardness. But Ajay, known for his deadpan humour, had the perfect clapback.
Ajay Devgn’s take on finger step of Pehla Tu
When asked about the viral step that caught the internet’s fancy for all the wrong reasons, Ajay said with a grin, "I don't know about people. But I will tell you — aap log mera mazak uda rahe ho, lekin mere liye yeh bhi karna bahut mushkil hai. Woh maine kar diya, uska aap log shukar kariye (While you may be making fun of me, even doing this much was really difficult for me. Be thankful I managed to do that much)."
His response drew chuckles from the press and guests at the event. Co-star Mrunal Thakur added to the fun, saying, “So, actually it looks very easy but when you do it yourself, you’ll understand that it’s actually a big mental workout.”
Netizens' reaction to Pehla Tu song
The song 'Pehla Tu' raised eyebrows not only for its unusual hook step but also for its odd choice of backdrop — a graveyard. Viewers online questioned why a love song was picturised in such a morbid setting, calling it “tone-deaf” and “bizarre.”
Still, the banter at the trailer event helped lighten the mood around what was becoming a social media roast session.
About Son of Sardaar 2
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the sequel brings back Ajay Devgn in a full-blown action-comedy avatar. This time, the story follows Ajay and Mrunal’s characters as they attempt to get someone close to them married — leading to a series of high-energy, drama-filled escapades. The cast also includes Ravi Kishan, Neeru Bajwa, Vindu Dara Singh, Sanjay Mishra, and the late Mukul Dev.
However, some fans weren’t completely sold on the trailer. Many felt the humour fell flat compared to the first instalment and expressed disappointment over Sonakshi Sinha’s absence in the sequel.
'Son of Sardaar 2' is slated to hit cinemas on July 25.
