New Delhi: The taboo topic of egg freezing has found a spotlight in the conversations with Telugu actor Mehreen Pirzada openly discussing her experience. The actress took to social media to share a video detailing her decision to undergo oocyte cryopreservation, commonly known as freezing unfertilized eggs. Mehreen's move comes shortly after Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur revealed her own contemplation of egg freezing as a means to prioritise her career over marriage.

Mehreen Pirzada documented her egg-freezing journey on Instagram. She shared her two-year process of contemplation before deciding to get it done. According to her, "After 2 years of trying to make up my mind to go through this process, I’m so happy that I finally did it. I was contemplating whether to share something so personal or not. But then I thought to myself that there are so many women like me who haven’t yet decided when to get married or have a baby and I think it’s very important to safeguard yourself for the future. Mehreen Pirzada on taboo around egg freezing

Acknowledging the societal taboo surrounding the topic, Mehreen wrote, “We don’t talk about this much as it is considered to be a “taboo” topic. With the help of technology, we are able to make better decisions for ourselves so why not? It’s my dream to become a mother and I didn’t want to throw it away just because I was a few years late.”

By openly discussing her egg-freezing journey, Mehreen hopes to inspire other women facing similar dilemmas and encourage them to prioritise their reproductive health and future.

She also shared that the journey of egg freezing was challenging. "I faint everytime I go to a hospital. The constant emotional turmoil that you’re going through because of all the hormonal injections is not easy. But if you ask me - was it worth it?? HELL YES!" she concluded.
