New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who is known for his exemplary peformances as an actor, revealed that he had decided to quit films and acting during the Covid-19 induced lockdown. The actor talked about various other topics from rejecting the label of 'Mr. Perfectionist' to getting candid about his relationship with his ex-wives Kiran Rao and Reena Dutta, in conversation with journalist and ABP anchor Sumit Awasthi, at ABP Ideas Of India Summit, in Mumbai on Saturday.

The topic of the discussion was 'New Beginnings: Reorienting Entertainment'.

"In the last two years of the pandemic, a lot of us have lost someone, everyone has their own personal stories," Awasthi said at the beginning of the conversation, adding: "How were these two years for you. Since you were spending a lot of time at home, we would want to know what you did during this period."

Replying to the question, the actor said that last two years have been difficult for all of us. He also shared that the pandemic gave him the opportunity to spend time with his family and kids, and about parenting responsibilities.

The 'Dangal' actor almost sent the entire audience in a state of shock when he revealed that he had actually quit films and acting during the lockdown.

He said, "I had informed my family that I won't be doing any films from now onwards. Neither I'll act nor I will produce any films. Now, I just want to spend my time with you all. My family was shocked."

Talking further about his decision, the actor said that at that time he thought it was better not to break the news to the world because if he had, then people might misinterpret it as a marketing scheme. He also said that he anyway makes films after three-to-four years, so once his upcoming film will release, people will think that he will be gone again for a couple of years now. By then, he would leave the industry and nobody would know.

"After three months, my kids made me understand that my decision was an extreme thing to do. They told me, I need to find a balance in my life, and spend time with them as well as do my films," he said.

The actor also said that his ex-wife and director Kiran Rao, even cried on hearing the actor's decision and said, "When I see you, I see films residing inside you. I am unable to understand what you are saying."

Aamir Khan said a lot of things happened during the past two years, "I quit the industry and came back."

On the work front, Aamir Khan will be seen in 'Laal Singh Chaddha', starring Kareena Kapoor and Naga Chaitanya Akkineni. The film is a remake of Tom Hanks starrer 'Forrest Gump'. After much ado, Aamir's film will hit the screens in August.
