Aamir Khan says Junaid hasn't bought a car
In a recent conversation with The New Indian, Aamir opened up about his son’s minimalist choices and his resistance to materialism. Even after repeated offers from Aamir to gift him a vehicle, Junaid has politely refused.
“You’d be shocked to know that Junaid hasn’t bought a car ever. He’s done two movies. He uses public transport. I’m tired of telling him to get a car; he can take one of mine, I have cars. He says, ‘No, dad, I don’t need a car, I just book an OLA’,” Aamir shared.
When Junaid took an overnight bus instead of a flight
In fact, Aamir recounted a moment that perfectly encapsulates his son's outlook. While in Kerala, Junaid had to make his way to Bengaluru for a wedding. Aamir assumed he’d fly but instead, Junaid opted for an overnight state-run bus. “He’s an unusual kind of person,” Aamir said, adding that Junaid’s simple lifestyle is a result of the way he was raised with no emphasis on wealth or extravagance.
Aamir and his former partners Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, share the same outlook, which, according to Aamir, has deeply influenced their children. And that mindset is visible in how Junaid navigates daily life. The young actor is often spotted travelling around Mumbai in auto-rickshaws. On one occasion, he even had trouble entering Yash Raj Studios because he showed up in an auto. His 'Maharaj' co-star Jaideep Ahlawat later revealed that Junaid had to convince security that he was actually starring in one of their productions.
Aamir Khan says his children are very sensitive
Beyond his frugal habits, Aamir says what sets Junaid apart is his sensitivity and quiet strength of character. “All three of my children are very sensitive. During the pandemic, both Reena’s parents caught the virus together, and Junaid immediately offered to move in with them. For two weeks, he took care of them alone, and made sure that they were okay, because even the help wasn’t around then. It just shows what a sensitive person he is. I felt very proud,” he said.
Reacting to his father’s repeated concerns, Junaid had earlier shrugged them off in an interview with Connect Cine, saying, “Papa makes a big deal out of small things. I just travel the most efficient way of traveling. I often take rickshaws in Mumbai because it is easier to get around and not worry about parking.”
