Aamir Khan Shares Real Reason Why Dangal Was NOT Released In Pakistan

Aamir Khan revealed he blocked ‘Dangal’ release in Pakistan after censors demanded the removal of the Indian national flag and anthem. “I did not want this,” he said.

Superstar Aamir Khan recently revisited a significant moment from the release of his 2016 blockbuster ‘Dangal’ that reaffirmed his patriotic stance. During his appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, the actor revealed why the film never saw a theatrical release in Pakistan despite its global acclaim and box office success.

Pakistan wanted Indian flag and anthem removed from Dangal

Aamir Khan shared that the Pakistani censor board had made specific demands which he outright refused to entertain.
“When the film was released, Disney was one of the producers; they presented it. Pakistan’s censor had asked them to remove the Indian flag and the Indian national anthem from the scene where Geeta Phogat wins a match. They said they won’t release this film unless this is done,” Aamir said.

Despite concerns from the producers regarding financial implications, Aamir stood firm on his decision. “Within a second, I told them that our film will not be released in Pakistan. I did not want to think about it either. They said this might impact our business. I said, ‘I have no interest if somebody asks me to remove our national flag and national anthem. I do not want this’,” he added.

India’s stand on Pakistani content

In a related development, the Indian government issued a ban on Pakistani content across OTT platforms and media services in April this year. The decision followed a brutal terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam region, where 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Baisaran Valley.

Subsequently, streaming platforms were instructed to discontinue content of Pakistani origin, including films, web series, music, and podcasts. Even social media accounts of Pakistani actors were restricted across Indian platforms.

Aamir Khan also saluted India’s armed forces during Operation Sindoor

Aamir Khan had earlier expressed solidarity with India’s armed forces in a separate statement praising Operation Sindoor.
“Saluting the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Heartfelt gratitude to our armed forces for their courage, bravery and unwavering commitment to the security of our nation. Thank you to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for his leadership and resolve. Jai Hind,” he stated.

Aamir Khan’s stance continues to be applauded by fans for placing patriotism and integrity above commercial gains.
