'Will Scrap Religion-Based Reservation': Nadda Promises Quota Hike For OBC, SC & ST Communities In Telangana

BJP President JP Nadda was addressing a public rally in poll-bound Telangana.

New Delhi: BJP national president JP Nadda on Thursday, addressing a rally in Telangana, promised to increase the reservation quota for backward classes in Telangana if elected to power.

He further stated that the party would remove reservations based on religion in the state and allocate it to Scheduled Classes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities.

"Once brought to power, we'll do away with the reservation based on religion. We will rather ensure social justice for the OBCs, SCs, and STs by increasing the reservation quota for them," BJP posted on platform X.

The BJP in its poll manifesto has promised to abolish 'religion-based reservations' and instead assist backward groups and STs.

Earlier on Monday, Amit Shah emphasized the BJP's manifesto promise to end 4% Muslim reservation in the state. He highlighted the party's intention to remove the quota and allocate it to SC, ST, and OBC communities.

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on Tuesday defended his party's poll promise in Telangana, saying that the decision was in congruence with the Constitution.

"The BJP's manifesto promise during the campaigning in Telangana is in sync with the Constitution of India," Annamalai told ANI.

"With respect to the religion-based reservation, you all know BR Ambedkar (the father of our constitution) was against it. You can't keep appeasing the rich section of a community who are the continuous beneficiaries of the reservation. The 4 per cent reservation is going to be distributed in the communities that really need it. If Asaduddin Owaisi is unhappy, it is up to him, because the people of Telangana want aspirational politics in sync with the new India," he had added.
