New Delhi: A high-voltage drama unfolded in West Bengal’s Dum Dum at Thursday midnight as vehicles of BJP leaders Mukul Roy and Samik Bhattacharya were vandalised allegedly by supporters of Trinamool Congress. As per reports, the incident took place by unidentified men in Nagerbazar area on Thursday night. The attack took place when Bhattacharya and Roy were not present at the spot. BJP has blamed TMC for the incident. Bhattacharya is BJP's candidate from Dum Dum Lok Sabha seat. Streak of poll-related vandalism and violence continues in West Bengal even as the final phase of Lok Sabha elections remains only two days away. The electoral process in West Bengal was filled with incidents of violence and various controversies, starting from phase-1 of polling. Last week, a convoy of West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh and Assam Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters in Khejuri area of Purba Medinipur district. Earlier BJP candidate Bharati Ghosh’s car was also vandalised. Incidents like clashes between TMC and BJP workers hurling of bombs, injury of a candidate due to lathi charge by central forces, manhandling of a contestant and beating up of a polling agent were reported, in the fifth phase of polling. In an unprecedented action, the EC on Wednesday cut short the campaigning period in West Bengal by a day for the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections in view of the violence during Shah's roadshow on Tuesday. Campaigning was originally scheduled to end at 5 pm on Friday for the nine constituencies that will go to polls on May 19. (additional inputs from ANI)
