UP Election 2022: UP BJP Chief Swatantra Dev Singh, Dy CM Dinesh Sharma To Not Contest In UP Assembly Polls
The party has recently released a list of 8 candidates which includes two women candidates.
New Delhi: As the Uttar Pradesh assembly election is drawing closer, new developments and announcement of candidatures have taken a front seat in the political landscape of the state. While on one hand some prominent leaders have announced the constituency seat from which they will contest the election, on the other hand there are many who announced that they will not contest the elections.
Recently two senior leaders of the Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party have announced that they will not contest the upcoming UP Assembly elections. UP BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh and Deputy Chief Minister of the state Dinesh Sharma have announced that they will not contest the UP elections.
The party has recently released a list of 8 candidates which includes two women candidates. Gudia Kateria has been fielded from Auraiya seat whereas Poonam Shankhwar has been camped from Rasoolabad constituency.

The party had released its second list of candidates on January 21 in which a total of 85 names were announced. The list included names like Aditi Singh — MLA from Raebareli Sadar who crossed over from Congress, MLA Hariom Yadav who had left SP to join BJP, former IPS Asim Arun and UP Assembly Deputy Speaker Nitin Aggarwal who also left SP.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will contest the election from Gorakhpur seat only as opposed.
Meanwhile, the Congress also released its second list of candidates on January 20 and has announced names of 16 female candidates out of total 41 candidates in the list.
The election for the state Assembly of Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases starting from February 10. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
