Telangana Elections 2018: TRS preponed assembly polls to avoid "Modi factor" in 2019, says JP Nadda

The Telangana Assembly Polls were originally scheduled to be held simultaneously with Lok Sabha elections next year.

New Delhi: Union Minister J P Nadda on Tuesday alleged that the ruling TRS dissolved the assembly to advance the elections in the state so that the Modi factor that would be evident in the 2019 general elections could be avoided in the state. The assembly polls in the state were originally scheduled to be held simultaneously with Lok Sabha elections next year. Nadda was quoted by news agency PTI as saying "Why these elections have come eight months earlier? Why K Chandrasekhar Rao has preponed the elections and put the burden of tax on your shoulders?” Because, KCR knows and knew that if elections are held along with Lok Sabha, elections would be full of (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi and ... they will lose," he was quoted as saying, while addressing a party meeting at Makthal in Mahabubnagar. Nadda is BJP’s incharge for the December 7 assembly polls in Telangana. TRS had stated that it chose to dissolve the assembly prematurely and seek a fresh mandate as opposition Congress tried to create hurdles for development by filing petitions in courts. Nadda, however, rejected the reason provided by the party. On September 6, the Telangana Assembly was dissolved as per a recommendation made by the TRS government. Nadda also alleged that there was an unholy alliance between TRS and Asaduddin Owaisi-led MIM, the agency reported.
