Kamal Fails To Bloom In Coimbatore South, BJP’s Vanathi Defeats Actor-Turned-Politician In Thrilling Finish

The poor performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and now not even being able to save even one's own seat means that people are still looking at Kamal Haasan as actor.

Chennai: Kamal Haasan's political gamble couldn't pay off one more time. The Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM) was leading in only one seat, Coimbatore South, where Haasan himself is the candidate. However, by the end of the counting, that was lost too.

Kamal Haasan suffered a major setback, losing to BJP's Mahila Morcha president Vanti Srinivasan. The Coimbatore South seat was quite interesting and finally the BJP registered its victory here.

According to Election Commission website, Haasan got 51,087 votes where as Srinivasan secured 52,627 votes, bagging a victory by 1,540 votes in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

Kamal Haasan was welcomed and responded well by the people in Coimbatore South seat, but he could leave only his actor image there. The poor performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and not being able to save even one's own seat means that people are still looking at Kamal Haasan as actor. He could not leave the mark of the leader.

Vanathi Srinivasan from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who is also the national head of the saffron party's women's wing, has won Coimbatore South by a margin of little less 900 votes, according to Election Commission data at 9:30 pm.

Latest trends in counting show the DMK alliance in the lead in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results. The party and its allies, including the Congress, are ahead in at least 156 seats, while the ruling AIADMK is up in 78 seats.
