South Bypoll Results: Congress Sweeps Karnataka Bypolls, Secures Key Wins In Kerala
In her political debut, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by a landslide margin of over 4 lakh votes, cementing her place in the Lok Sabha.
The bypolls held in Karnataka and Kerala delivered significant victories for the Congress party with the party claiming all three Assembly seats in Karnataka and a strong performance in Kerala. The party also managed to secure a historic win through Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.
Kerala Bypolls Results
Wayanad Lok Sabha
In her political debut, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by a landslide margin of over 4 lakh votes, cementing her place in the Lok Sabha. Her commanding lead throughout the counting marked a triumphant start to her electoral career.
Trailing behind her were Sathyan Mokeri of CPI who secured 2,11,407 votes and BJP's Navya Haridas with 1,09,939 votes.
Palakkad Assembly Constituency
Congress candidate Rahul Mamkootathil overcame an initial setback to edge out BJP's C. Krishnakumar. After trailing in the early rounds, Mamkootathil surged ahead as counting progressed.
Rahul received 58,389 votes and won with a margin of 18,840 votes.
Chelakkara Assembly Constituency
In the Chelakkara Assembly bypoll, CPI(M) candidate U.R. Pradeep of the ruling LDF coalition retained the seat, defeating Congress candidate Ramya Haridas by a margin of over 12,000 votes. Pradeep maintained a steady lead throughout the counting process.
Karnataka Bypolls Results
Congress made a clean sweep in the Karnataka bypolls, winning all three Assembly seats—Shiggaon, Channapatna, and Sandur. While Congress retained its bastion Sandur, the scions of former CMs Nikhil Kumaraswamy and Bharath Bommai lost their seats to the Congress candidates.
Shiggaon Constituency
Congress candidate Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan overcame an early deficit to win by a decisive margin of over 13,000 votes. Pathan garnered over 1 lakh votes, while BJP's Bharath Bommai, son of former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, trailed with 87,000 votes.
Channapatna Constituency
In the high-stakes Channapatna constituency, Congress candidate C.P. Yogeshwara defeated NDA's Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, by a resounding margin of 25,413 votes. Yogeshwara secured 1,12,642 votes, compared to Kumaraswamy's 87,229 votes.
Sandur Constituency
Congress retained its bastion in Sandur with candidate Annapurna Tukaram winning by a margin of 9,649 votes. Tukaram received 93,616 votes, while BJP's Bangaru Hanumanthu ended with 83,967 votes.
