Siddaramaiah Tears Into Previous Govt As He Becomes K'taka CM For 2nd Term
Terming the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government as “useless”, Siddaramaiah alleged they could not get the share of taxes properly for the state.
The newly-elected Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, after taking the oath of office on Saturday, assured that his government would fulfil the aspirations of the people. While addressing a press conference, he said that his government has given “in principle” approval to the five Congress' guarantees in the first Cabinet meeting.
“Five guarantees in the manifesto were promised and the order for the implementation of those five guarantees was given after the first cabinet meeting. All will be in force after next cabinet meeting which will be called within a week,” he said during the press conference held in Vidhan Soudha.
Terming the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government as “useless”, Siddaramaiah alleged they could not get the share of taxes properly for the state.
“Centre has to give us Rs 5,495 crores as per the finance commission recommendation. Previous government didn't get it. Nirmala Sitharaman is Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka and it's because of her and the PM that Karnataka suffered losses,” he said.
"This is the assurance by the new Congress government to the people of Karnataka. I also promise that all assurances of the Congress manifesto would be fulfilled as well," he said earlier after taking the oath.
Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah took the oath as the new Karnataka Chief Minister and DK Shivakumar was sworn in as his deputy.
The eight cabinet ministers also took oaths.
He thanked party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi and president Mallikarjun Kharge along with other national leaders who campaigned in Karnataka.
The oath of office was administered to the two leaders by state Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at a ceremony at the Kanteerava Stadium here.
This is the second tenure for Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister. He previously served between 2013 and 2018.
