Punjab Election 2022 | Manmohan Singh, Sonia, Rahul & Priyanka Among Congress' Star Campaigners List

Former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar and senior Congress leaders Anand Sharma, Ashok Gehlot and Rajeev Shukla have also been named the star campaigners for Punjab.

New Delhi: Former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are among the grand old party’s star campaigners for the Punjab Assembly elections.

Former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar and senior Congress leaders Anand Sharma, Ashok Gehlot and Rajeev Shukla have also been named the star campaigners for Punjab.

Besides, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu also figure in the Congress’ list of star campaigners, ANI reported.

In addition, the Congress has named party leaders Ambika Sonia, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Harish Chaudhary, Bhupesh Baghel, Sunil Jakhar, Pratap Singh Bajwa, Kumari Selja and Sachin Pilot among the star campaigners for Punjab.

The Congress’ list of 30 star campaigners also includes Randeep Singh Surjewala, Deepender Singh Hooda, Ranjeet Ranjan, Netta D’souza, BV Srinivas, Imran Pratapgarhi, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Amrita Dhawan, Raminder Awla and Tajender Singh Bittoo.

This comes amid reports that Rahul Gandhi is likely to declare the Punjab CM face on Sunday, thereby putting an end to the suspense whether incumbent Channi or Sidhu will be the grand old party’s face in the state.

Gandhi had earlier last week said Channi and Sidhu have assured him that both will support whosoever is the CM face.

Gandhi said the Congress workers will take a final call on the CM face in Punjab.

“Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi and state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu assured me that whoever will lead (CM face) Punjab, the other person will support him. The party workers will decide,” he said while addressing a gathering in Punjab, ANI reported.

Voting for the Punjab Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 14. The results will be declared on March 10.
