Goa Polls: Congress To Launch NYAY Scheme, Rs 6,000 Per Month To Be Transferred To Poor Citizens

The Congress leader also used the occasion to take potshots at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging the government led by the saffron party failed in tourism, Covid-19 and employment.

New Delhi: In a bid to woo the voters ahead of the Goa Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday announced the launch of the ‘Nyay Scheme’ under which Rs 6,000 per month will “automatically be transferred to the poorest” in the coastal state.

“We are taking a historic decision in Goa, a new ‘Nyay Scheme’ will be launched. Rs 6,000 per month, i.e. Rs 72,000 in a year, will automatically be transferred to Goa’s poorest citizens,” he said in a virtual rally from Goa, ANI reported.

The Congress leader also used the occasion to take potshots at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging the government led by the saffron party failed in tourism, Covid-19 and employment.

“We are not giving tickets to defectors, have given tickets to new people this time,” he said.

Expressing confidence of the Congress forming a govt in Goa with full majority, Gandhi said: “The fight is between the Congress and BJP only, do not waste your votes.”

Earlier in the day, Gandhi arrived in Panaji for a day-long visit to the poll-bound coastal state.

During his day-long visit, the Wayanad MP will interact with the representatives of the Anganwadi staff, tourism sector among others. He will also hold meetings with the party workers and guide Congress candidates.

Polling for the 40-member Goa Assembly will take place in a single phase on February 14.

The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
