UP Election 2022: CM Yogi Adityanath Files Nomination, Declares Assets Worth Rs 1.5 Crore

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who filed his nomination papers from Gorakhpur (Urban) on Friday for the upcoming assembly elections, declared total assets worth Rs 1.54 crore.

Adityanath in his poll affidavit said that he has no dependents. He also declared that there is no building, agricultural or non-cultivable land in his name.

Adityanath, who is contesting the state assembly elections for the first time as a candidate, also said that no criminal case is pending against him.

He had declared his income in 2020-21 to be Rs 13,20,653, which was Rs 15,68,799 in 2019-20.

The Chief Minister’s income in 2018-19 was Rs 18,27,639, while it was Rs 14,38,670 in 2017-18.

The five-time former Lok Sabha MP’s income was Rs 8,40,998 in 2016-17.

Adityanath, who has an image of a Hindutva nationalist and a right-wing populist, also declared that he owns a Samsung mobile phone worth Rs 12,000, a revolver worth Rs 1,00,000 and a rifle worth Rs 80,000.

The affidavit also states that Adityanath owns a gold ear ornament weighing 20 grams worth Rs 49,000 and a gold chain and Rudraksha neck ornament weighing 10 grams worth Rs 20,000.

Adityanath was sworn-in as the chief minister earlier on March 19, 2017, after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a landslide mandate in the assembly elections with 312 seats.

He is also the mahant or head priest of the Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur, a position he has held since the death of his spiritual father Mahant Avaidyanath earlier in September 2014.

Adityanath, who was born as Ajay Mohan Bisht on June 5, 1972, in the village of Panchur, in Pauri Garhwal, Uttar Pradesh (now in Uttarakhand), is also the founder of Hindu Yuva Vahini.

The Chief Minister, who filed his nomination flanked by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, earlier in the day performed a puja at the Gorakhnath temple.

Voting for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7.

The counting of votes will be held on March 10.
