Nagaland Assembly Elections: Cash, Liquor, Narcotics And Contraband Items Worth Over Rs 28 Cr Seized

In poll-bound Nagaland, different enforcement agencies have seized cash, drugs, and liquor with a total valuation of over Rs 28 crores till February 3, 2023, reported news agency ANI. All this has been seized since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) on January 18.

Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland while talking to ANI said, "Cash, liquor, drugs & narcotics and contraband items and freebies worth over Rs 28 crores have been seized till 3rd February by the various enforcement agencies."

Since the MCC enforcement, cash, alcohol, narcotics, and areca nuts worth Rs 20.06 crore had been recovered by the Police and Income Tax department, according to the consolidated seizure report till January 31 published by the office of the Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Wednesday.

As of Tuesday, authorities had recovered 35.69 lakh rupees in cash, 35,716 litres of alcohol valued at 2.24 crore rupees, 2.57 kg of heroin, totaling 16.27 crore rupees in narcotics, and 3,080 kilogrammes of areca nuts.

2,034 licenced firearms, according to a CEO source, have been deposited at various police stations across the state, reported news agency PTI. V Shashank Shekhar, the chief electoral officer for Nagaland, told media that the electioneering process had been peaceful till now.

On the second day of nomination filing on Wednesday, he claimed that no candidate had submitted any documentation in any of the 60 seats.

Shekhar said that 16 general and police observers will each arrive in the state at least one day before to the deadline for nominations on February 7, and that 24 expenditure observers have already been placed in various regions of the state.

13,17,634 voters are registered in Nagaland, and there are 2,315 polling booths, 680 of which have been designated as vulnerable and 920 as critical.

Election day in Nagaland is February 27, and the results will be tallied on March 2.
