Mayawati's BSP To Go Solo In 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

The Mayawati-led BSP will not ally with any party for the Lok Sabha election to be held earlier next year.

The Bahujan Samaj Party led by former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati h decided to contest the Lok Sabha Election next year on its own. The announcement came a month after it decided to contest the assembly elections in various states slated to be held later this year.

In a statement, BSP said: "In order to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha General Elections alone, the BSP will strengthen its cadre in every village and increase the mass connect in the society. In a meeting with senior party members, Mayawati reviewed the progress on the previous directions to party workers. Instructions were also issued to carefully select the candidates for the Lok Sabha election."

Speaking about previous alliances, the party said that its votes would be transferred to its allies but its partners did not have the "intent or ability" to do the same for BSP. Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BSP became a part of the Mahagathbandhan, an alliance that leaned neither towards the BJP nor the Congress. Accusing the BJP of engaging in "communal politics" BSP said that the ruling party only promoted anarchy. "Because of this, the BJP is losing not only its influence but also its mass base," BSP's statement read.

Taking a dig at the Congress, the BSP said: "Just as in case of the Congress, the BJP's actions and words do not match. People are earning less and inflation is taking a toll on the mass except for a handful of people. The Bahujans of the country are unable to maintain their families."

Last month, the BSP said that it will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana, on its own. The announcement had come a day after the united Opposition formed the INDIA bloc to counter the BJP-led NDA. The BSP won 10 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election and has 9 MPs in the Lower House at present.
