Supriya Sule & Sunetra Pawar File Nomination Papers From Baramati Constituency For LS Polls

Baramati constituency would be witnessing a contest between Supriya Sule, daughter of Sharad Pawar, and Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

With one day to go for the much-awaited Lok Sabha elections, Mahayuti alliance candidate Sunetra Pawar and her sister-in-law and competitor NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) candidate Supriya Sule on Thursday filed their nominations for the Baramati constituency in the district. The constiteuncy would be witnessing a contest between Sule, sitting MP and daughter of Sharad Pawar, and Sunetra, wife of Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

 Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, NCP leader Praful Patel and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale were present as Sunetra Pawar filed her nomination papers.

Before filing her nomination papers today, NCP(SP) candidate and sitting MP from Baramati, Supriya Sule said "After seeing my work, my merit, I am confident that the public will definitely stand with me...The biggest problem in this constituency is water. So I think the administration needs to pay more attention to this drought today." 

She also paid a tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar ahead of filing her nomination papers today.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was seen offering prayers at the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple along with his wife and NCP candidate from Baramati Sunetra Pawar, before the nomination filing.

Along with Sule, NCP(SP) candidate from Shirur, Amol Kolhe and the Congress' Pune Lok Sabha constituency candidate Ravindra Dhangekar also filed their papers today. 

Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who arrived in Pune to take part in the nomination filing for Baramati, Sangli and Satara seats where Sunetra Pawar, Sanjay Kaka Patil and Udayan Raje Bhosale are the ruling Mahayuti's candidates, expressed confidence that they will win all three seats in the Lok Sabha elections this year, PTI reported.

After filing nominations, Prashant Jagtap, NCP (SP) Pune city unit president, said that there will be a joint rally where party chief Sharad Pawar, state unit president Jayant Patil and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut would also be present.

NCP vs NCP(SP) In Baramati Constituency

Baramati constituency was represented by Sharad Pawar, six times in a row in 1984, 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004. Thereafter, Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule has been representing the seat since 2009.

In 2019, she won the seat for the third time in a row by defeating BJP's Kanchan Rahul Kul. Sunetra Pawar, her sister-in-law and wife of Ajit Pawar is fielded against Supriya Sule in Baramati, resulting in both the members of the Pawar family locking horns in an electoral battle for the first time.
