'Congress Playing With Fire': Rajnath Singh Hits Out At Rahul Gandhi, Hints On BJP's UCC Plans In '3rd Term'

Lok Sabha elections: Rajnath Singh said that the Congress wants to create Hindu-Muslim divide for electoral gains and that it looks at the Muslim community only as a vote bank.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday took a dig at the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi saying that the Wayanad MP has no fire but the grand old party is attempting to play with fire by creating a Hindu-Muslim divide. In an interview with news agency PTI, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Lucknow also hinted towards implementing its big-ticket plans like rolling out of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and implementation of the 'One Nation One Election' push if elected to power for a third term.

Singh exuded confidence that the National Democratic Alliance will cross the 400 mark and the saffron party will get over 370 seats saying that these projections have been made after a detailed assessment of the ground situation and not made only for public consumption.

Speaking on the overall political landscape, Singh accused the Congress of attempting to disturb social harmony and trying to create tensions along religious lines.

"They are attempting to create a Hindu-Muslim divide for electoral gains. The Congress is trying to create tensions on religious lines," he alleged, adding that the grand old party wants to disturb social harmony.

He also charged Congress of looking at the Muslim community only as a vote bank and said, "I have a suggestion for them -- politics should not be done only for forming governments. The aim of politics should be for nation building."

"Rahul Gandhi has no fire but Congress is playing with fire," he added.

The BJP leader also trained guns on the Congress for its plan to "redistribute" wealth saying it will have disastrous consequences for the economy of the country.

"The concept of redistribution of wealth will trigger recession. Argentina and Venezuela implemented it and faced disastrous consequences. The investors will lose confidence in India," Singh said.

On the saffron party's big-ticket plans like implementation of the UCC and 'One Nation One Election', Singh said that the party fulfils its promise made to the people of India.

"We always fulfil our commitments. We will never allow any question mark on our credibility and will not compromise on the country's unity and integrity. We implement whatever we say in our manifesto. We have to do whatever we say," Singh said.
