The Election Commission on March 16 announced the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. As per the schedule, the polls are slated to begin from April 19 and will be held in seven phases for 102 Parliamentary constituencies across 21 states and Union Territories.
The Election Commission of India in its notification also stated that the scrutiny of the nominations will be done till March 28 and the last date to withdraw candidature will be March 30. The counting of the votes will be done on June 4.
The states and Union Territories that will vote during the first phase of voting on April 19 include Arunachal Pradesh (2), Assam (5), Bihar (4), Chhattisgarh (1), Madhya Pradesh (6), Maharashtra (5), Manipur (2), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Rajasthan (12), Sikkim (1), Tamil Nadu (39), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), Uttarakhand (5), West Bengal (3), and Andaman and Nicobar Islands (1), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Lakshadweep (1), and Puducherry (1).
The former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and BJP candidate Trivendra Singh Rawat filed his nomination for the Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency digitally.

Additionally, three candidates from Madhya Pradesh, including one from the Bharatiya Janata Party filed nominations from Sidhi, Shahdol (ST), Jabalpur, Mandla (ST), Balaghat, and Chhindwara seats, respectively.
Assam Congress on Thursday lodged a complaint against senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with the Election Commission of India (ECI). The grand old party alleged that the BJP leader's remarks during one of his recent campaign trails violated the model code of conduct.
The Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh declared candidates for six seats including Sambhal, Baghpat, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Pilibhit, Ghosi, and Mirzapur.
While Manoj Chaudhary will be the party candidate from Baghpat, Ziaur Rahman Burk will contest on the SP ticket from Sambhal. Rahul Awana will contest from Gautam Buddha Nagar. Bhagwat Saran Gangwar and Rajeev Rai will be the party candidates from Pilibhit and Ghosi, respectively.

“All the seats were discussed. The parliamentary committee will take the decision now. It is clear that there is going to be no alliance in Odisha (with the BJD) and we will contest on all 147 seats in assembly elections and 21 seats in Lok Sabha elections," Odisha BJP chief Manmohan Samal said after attending the party’s Central Election Committee meeting in New Delhi.

Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday demanded that police forces from other states be deployed in some areas of West Bengal in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, apprehending that local law enforcers may act in a partisan manner against the opposition. The leader of opposition in the state assembly, while speaking to reporters in Purba Medinipur district, said that recent incidents in the state showed that the state police was incapable of preventing TMC activists from attacking opposition party workers, including those of the BJP, during campaigning.
