On March 29, the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the poll schedule for the election of 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The state will go to polls on May 10 and the votes will be counted on May 13.
The term of the current Karnataka Legislative Assembly would end on May 24, 2023.
The incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party, led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, is aiming to come back to power and has been stressing on the Kannadiga issue and the recent decision to grant reservation to Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities by scrapping a religion-based reservation for the Muslim community.
Whereas Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) are trying to corner the BJP dispensation on the issue of corruption.
ABP-Cvoter Karnataka Opinion Poll
According to the ABP News CVoter Opinion Poll, the Congress leads in projected vote share percentage at 40%, with a 2.0% increase. The BJP is expected to maintain its 36% vote share from the previous state assembly election. In terms of vote share, the regional party Janata Dal (Secular) led by HD Deve Gowda remains almost constant.
According to the ABP-CVoter poll, JDS will receive 16% of the vote, a significant decrease from their performance in the 2018 Karnataka assembly election.
Congress leader Siddaramaiah also seems to be ahead in the race as the most preferred chief minister candidate, according to an earlier ABP News-CVoter survey. Acoording to the previous survey, 39.1 per cent of voters would want to see former CM Siddaramaiah back on the post.
Incumbent Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai from the Bharatiya Janata Party came next in the list of most preferred CM candidates, with 31.1 per cent people voters ready to give him a chance to continue with a second term.
