In First Mahayuti Meet, Devendra Fadnavis Promises Stable Govt, Drops Hint On Cabinet Expansion

Devendra Fadnavis and his deputies attended the first meeting of the Mahayuti government at the state secretariat at 7 pm, shortly after the oath-taking ceremony at Azad Maidan.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that his government will provide a stable government over the next five years and the state under his leadership will see politics of change and not revenge.

The CM made the announcement after the BJP leader along with his deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar took charge of their responsibilities at the state secretariat 'Mantralaya' in Mumbai after taking the oath of office on Thursday evening.

Fadnavis and his deputies attended the first meeting of the Mahayuti government at the state secretariat at 7 pm, shortly after the oath-taking ceremony at Azad Maidan. After the meeting, Fadnavis said that the government would fulfill the pre-poll promises and added that the pace of development would not stop in the state.

Addressing a press conference, the new chief minister said, "Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar are with me. People want a stable government, so they have chosen us and we will stay and work together. We will continue the 'Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana'."

The Chief Minister said that the government will soon elect an Assembly Speaker and hold a special session on December 7-8.

Fadnavis said the new cabinet, which now has deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, will be expanded before the winter session of the state legislature which will he held in Nagpur later this month.

"Who will get what ministry, this will be decided by the three together and it is in the final stage. The work of the ministers in the previous government is being assessed and further decision will be taken on that basis," Fadnavis said.

After assuming the CM's chair, the BJP leader made the first signature approving the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to a patient for bone marrow transplant treatment.

"The first signature that I have done today is that I have decided to give Rs 5 lakhs from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to a patient for bone marrow transplant treatment... The kind of mandate we have received this time, I believe that there is definitely a pressure of that mandate, pressure of people's love on us and I feel that. When expectations are big, the challenge is also big," he added.

Fadnavis is the 20th chief minister since the Maharashtra state was formed in 1960. The three leaders of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance were sworn in at a grand ceremony at Azad Maidan, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief ministers of several states, Union ministers, industry leaders and film stars.
