Haryana Polls: Ex-Min Ranjit Chautala Among 8 BJP Leaders Expelled For Contesting As Independents

The lastest development comes days after Congress took a similar step and expelled 21 leaders for six years in Haryana ahead of the assembly polls.

Haryana Assembly Elections 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday expelled eight party leaders in Haryana for a period of six years. The decision was taken as these leaders had opted to contest the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections as independent candidates against BJP candidates. The list includes former minister Ranjit Chautala and former MLA Devendra Kadyan.

Chautala has previously been a member of the Indian National Lok Dal, Congress, and the Janata Dal, before joining the BJP. He won the seat of Rania in the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections as an independent, following which he and his grandnephew Dushyant Chautala, supported the saffron party to secure majority.

The lastest development comes two days after Congress took a similar step and expelled 21 leaders in Haryana ahead of the polls.

Many leaders got into the fray themselves after being denied tickets to contest the Haryana elections by their respective parties. Though some of them were convinced, others who stood firm on their decision, with the hopes winning as independents, were expelled.

The list of leaders who have been expelled by the BJP includes Sandeep Garg from Ladwa, Devendra Kadyan from Ganaur, Jilaram Sharma from Assandh, Bachchan Singh Arya from Safidon, Radha Ahlawat from Meham, Ranjit Chautala from Rania, Naveen Goyal from Gurugram, and Kehar Singh Rawat from Hathin.

Recently, the Haryana Congress also announced a six-year suspension of 21 party rebels. The list included five former legislators and two All-India Congress Committee (AICC) delegates. Former chief parliamentary secretary Sharda Rathore was also on the list.

Chitra Sarwara from Ambala Cantonment and Rajesh Joon from Bahadurgarh were also suspended.

Haryana Assembly elections are slated to be held on October 5. The counting of votes will be held on October 8.
