Bittu Bajrangi, Cow Vigilante Accused In Nuh Violence Case, To Contest Haryana Elections As Independent

Bittu Bajrangi has been accused for the violence that broke out in Nuh last year killing five people.

Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi alias Rajkumar Panchal, who was accused in the Nuh violence case, will contest the upcoming Haryana assembly elections as an Independent candidate.  

Bajrangi filed his nomination on Tuesday as an Independent candidate from the NIT assembly segment in Faridabad to fight the October 5 polls in the state, reported PTI. 

District Election Officer Vikram Singh confirmed his nomination in an official statement.  

Elections for the 90-member Haryana Legislative Assembly will be held in a single phase across the state on October 5. Results will be declared on October 8 along with Jammu and Kashmir elections.  

Founder of Gau Raksha Bajrang Force, a cow vigilante group, Bajrangi has a long association with controversies. He has been accused of the violence that broke out in Haryana's Nuh in July last year after a procession organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad was attacked by a mob.

He was seen carrying swords and tridents during the procession. 

Five people were killed, including two home guards, while many others were injured in the violence that started on July 31 last year in Nuh and soon spread to other areas in the state. The fire reached Gurugram, where a naib imam was killed in a mosque amid a series of incidents of arson.

Incidents of arson were reported from other parts of the state as well including Palwal, Manesar, Faridabad and Rewari.

Bajrangi, who was accused of the violence was arrested on August 16 last year and is currently out on bail. This year July, three cases were registered against Bajrangi in Faridabad. 

Prohibitory orders were issued and the internet was suspended in the affected districts to maintain law and order. 

A total of 116 people were arrested in connection with the violence while 90 people were detained, as per the Haryana government.
