Gujarat Election 2022: The 182-member Gujarat Assembly will soon undergo polls to elect members for its 15th term. In a press conference held today, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that polling in the state for Gujarat Election 2022 will take place on in two phases — December 1 and 5 while the votes will be counted on December 10.

Gujarat Assembly Constituencies
The Gujarat Assembly is a unicameral legislative assembly with 182 seats of which 13 constituencies are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 27 constituencies are for Scheduled Tribes.
Gujarat Poll History
The state of Gujarat was created on May 1, 1960, and Jivraj Narayan Mehta of the Indian National Congress was the inaugural Chief Minister. The Bharatiya Janata Party was elected to power in the state for the first time in the year 1995 and since then the saffron party has mantained its winning streak, ruling over the state for almost 27 years now.
Meanwhile, the Congress party which initially ruled over Gujarat after its creation had been in power six times which includes coalition government as well.

Gujarat Assembly Polls 2017
In the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party obtained a simple majority winning 99 seats and formed the government in the state with Vijay Rupani as the Chief Minister. The Congress received 78 votes while Bharatiya Tribal Party got 2 votes, Nationalist Congress Party 1 seat and Independents got 2 seats.
