Delhi MCD Election 2022 Date: The Delhi State Election Commission on Friday announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls would be held on December 4 and results would be declared on December 7. The BJP, which has governed the Delhi civic bodies since 2007, is pitted against a resurgent Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress.

"The issue of notification will be on November 7 and will end on November 14. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is November 19. Voting for the polls will be on December 4 and the results will be announced on December 7," Vijay Dev, Delhi State Election Commissioner, said.

With the announcement, the model code of conduct comes into effect from Friday. Addressing a press conference, Vijay Dev said polling stations were redrawn after completion of the delimitation process in Delhi.

"Now we are prepared for 250 wards in Delhi. Municipal corporation of Delhi has jurisdiction in 68 constituencies. 42 seats reserved for SCs. Out of those 42 seats for SCs, 21 seats will be for SC women. 104 seats will be reserved for women," the Delhi State Election Commissioner said.

More than 2,000 sector magistrates will be deployed for the MCD polls and there will be 68 general observers in each assembly.

The SEC earlier informed that the people whose names are mentioned in the electoral rolls revised till January 1 this year will be treated as voters in the forthcoming municipal elections.

In a gazette notification in this regard, the Commission said that the electoral rolls revised by the Chief Electoral Officers with the last date as January 1, 2022, shall be treated as the voter lists for MCD elections.

Officials said that it means that only those people who became voters till January 1, 2022, will be able to cast their vote in the upcoming MCD elections.

Till January 1, 2022, there were around 1.48 crore voters in Delhi.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday issued a final gazette notification for the redrawing of municipal wards in Delhi, paving the way for municipal elections. The 800-page gazette notification issued by MHA mentioned that the number of municipal wards in Delhi will now be 250.

Before the reunification of the municipality, there used to be 272 wards in 68 assembly segments.

Municipal elections in the city are due since April this year.

The BJP, which was ruling the three municipal corporations in Delhi for over a decade before their reunification, the AAP, and the Congress have already started preparation for the polls.
